This quick, one-skein crochet scarf is an attractive, lightweight accessory casual enough to wear with jeans and pretty enough to wear to a party. This scarf is an easy way to spice up your wardrobe - try a color that matches or contrasts with your favorite outfits! This is a deceptively easy crochet project & most motivated knitters will have no problem crocheting this scarf.

100g yarn (many weights will work for the scarf, I'd recommend fingering to aran weight)

If you want a quick weekend knit, you need a smaller bag for summer, you like color, or you are interested in Fibonacci Stripes, you will surely enjoy this bag! Using only about 4oz of yarn these bags can be knit up in a few days.

Materials:
2 skeins worsted weight feltable yarn
Size 10.5 16" circular needle
Size 13 double points for knitted handle -OR-
pair of plastic handles

First Time Toe Up Socks

This is the perfect first sock. Choose any yarn and any foot size, no swatching necessary!  Easy going knitting with a fit as you go design makes learning socks simple as pie!

Materials:
Pattern in included in class fee
100 – 150 grams of washable yarn. You can use anything from fingering to bulky. We’ve had lots of students either use Socks That Rock heavy weight (1 skein makes 2 pairs of average size short socks) or Debbie Bliss Cashmerino chunky (3 balls makes an average pair of socks).
Bring double point needles smaller than recommended for your yarn. Lynn recommends bringing any double points you have so you can have some options in class.

We explore further options knitting socks with one needle. Expand your sock knitting knowledge with a figure-eight cast-on, short-row toes, and short row heels. Top all that off with a very stretchy crochet bind-off.

These baby and kids socks are truly like Potato Chips, you can’t stop with one pair! Simple color-work combines with mix and match colors create an interchangeable collection of socks. None may match, but they all go together. A great way to brighten up the child in your life.

An Afternoon with Louisa Harding!
June 13th                         Friday 3:30-7:30
$45 includes class & materials
Louisa Harding, longtime favorite designer for Rowan yarns and the Miss Bea Books, and current creative force behind her own fantastic line of yarns will be coming to town to teach a 3 hour workshop & book signing event. We’ll play with combinations of her yarns & leave with a small project. Spaces are very limited, please call or email us for more information and to reserve your space.

 

World Wide Knit in Public Day
June 14th                         Saturday 11:00-at least 2:00
Celebrate World Wide Knit in Public Day with a Picnic in the park, sponsored by Rae’s Yarn Boutique and Woven Art. Let’s meet at 11 a.m. at Patriarche Park in East Lansing. We’ll have the shelter until 2 p.m., but we can stay and play all afternoon. Please bring whatever you would like to grill, and/or a dish to pass. We will bring soft beverages. Kaleidoscope Canes Polymer Clay

This is a brand new polymer clay class from Lynn! We’ll be playing with making canes of color that mirror and reflect across the cane. This very cool effect looks fabulous on buttons or decorating the end of your knitting needles. There will also be a $15-$20 supply fee for this class.

 

Beginning Crochet

Confused about crochet? Get hooked while making a fun tubular tote. Decipher basic stitches, working flat and in the round, increasing & decreasing, and even crochet charts. We’ll also learn how to sew in a zipper! Great for new crocheters or knitters looking to add crochet skills.

Materials:
Pattern Included in class fee.
550 yards smooth worsted or aran weight yarn. This pattern can be knit in cotton or knit in wool and felted. I used 5 balls of SWTC Karaoke for the sample. Noro Kureyon, On Line Clip, Katia Jamaica, & Ella Rae Classic are all other good choices.
A Zipper (we will be able to determine length for the zipper after the second class)
Removable stitch markers.
For cotton bag: size H Crochet Hook

Basic Notions

Yarn Dyeing

Learn to create your own custom yarns! We'll cover some easy methods that you'll easily be able recreate right in your own kitchen using professional color safe dyes. Please remember to wear clothes you don't mind getting stained.

Materials:
2-3 colors of Jacquard Acid Dyes
1 Regular Sock Yarn Blank
1 Feltable Wool Yarn Blank
2-3 Large Squeeze Bottles (one for each color)
